Ubuntu is a community choir committed to the belief that group singing is a fundamental component of our human heritage - a birthright that brings us closer together, while also helping us become more and more ourselves!

Ubuntu  has an open-door policy: Anyone may join. Additionally, we try to be as accessible and communal as we can throughout our process, learning different types of music in different ways. We teach one another; we co-harmonize; we make decisions together.
Ubuntu was founded by Emily Joy Sullivan in October 2010 in order to provide the members of International House NY (a graduate student housing community) with a forum for group song. It has since branched out to include members of the broader community - all of whom want a warm, welcoming group in which to sing!

Ubuntu states that a person is a person through other people; this choir shows how a voice is a voice through other voices.
